What Does Hyaluronic Acid Do
What Is Hyaluronic Acid? And Why You Need to Incorporate it in Your Skincare Routine?
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a very popular skincare ingredient, and there is a reason for that! It's perfect for all skin types, including oily, sensitive and even acne-prone skin!
But what exactly is hyaluronic acid? Is it worth the hype? Find out everything you need to know about it, and why you should be using it!
What Does Hyaluronic Acid Do?
Hyaluronic Acid is a transparent, gooey substance that is actually produced naturally by your body. Its main function is to retain water to keep your skin, joints and even eyes well lubricated and moist. About half of the Hyaluronic Acid in your body is in your skin, where it binds to water to help retain moisture.
Hyaluronic Acid plays a critical role in healing cuts and skin irritations. When your skin suffers damage, its concentrations of HA increase in that area and help speed up the healing process by regulating inflammation levels and signalling the body to build more blood vessels in the damaged area.
The unique capacity of Hyaluronic Acid to bind and retain 1,000 times its weight in water is the reason why it is so sought after in the skincare industry. The additional hydration gives your skin a plumping effect and reduces the appearance of wrinkles, which may explain why our Revitalizing Face Serum - Papaya & Piña is our best seller... Hyaluronic Acid is at the top of its ingredient list!
At Lulo Skin, we use “low molecular weight” Hyaluronic Acid, which has a smaller molecule, this means that it can reach deeper layers of the skin for better results.
Hyaluronic Acid can enhance moisture beyond comparison. It also revitalizes the skin’s outer surface layers, making it look and feel softer, smoother and hydrated.
How to Use Hyaluronic Acid?
Apply Morning and Night
You can use it twice a day, morning and night, if you feel you are a little drier. Twice a day is also ideal in the winter.
Damp Skin
Before you actually apply a product that contains HA, make sure your face is slightly damp. You can easily splash a little water on your face or spray a little facial mist. When your skin is already damp, the benefits of Hyaluronic Acid are increased because it actually has water to bind to.
Apply a Moisturizer After Applying Hyaluronic Acid!
Some people report their skin actually drying out more when they use products that contain HA, and there’s actually a reason for that. If you’re not applying a moisturizer or oil on top of your HA serum, it will actually pull the moisture from your skin. This is especially true when the air is drier.
However, our Revitalizing Face Serum - Papaya & Piña has a mix of moisturizing ingredients like coconut oil, that eliminate the need to moisturize after you apply it. However, you can always apply our Vitamin C Serum Oil – Coco & Café on top of it, specially, during the day.
